I am Rick Martin, the principal consultant at Martin Media Services and welcome to my new blog.
From my experience in sales and marketing I came across many small businesses who viewed marketing as an expensive thing that only large corporations "did", which was something they were "too small" for.
Of course, being able to find a market where you can sell your products and services is the life blood of all businesses, large or small. I founded MMS around a year ago to try and challenge this misconception that marketing is expensive and out of the reach of small companies until they get bigger.
Maybe even worst are those small businesses whose resistance to marketing goes as far as grudgingly carrying it out for the wrong reasons. They do what their rivals are doing in order to blend in with the competition in their industry, thinking "if my rival round the corner isn't doing it why should I?"
What they should be doing is something that little bit different so that they stand out for the pack, asking themselves what their customer will be asking "why should I buy from you and not the rival round the corner?"
Since I started MMS, one of my primary goals has been to educate businesses on the power of innovation, by embracing the latest in communications technology and harnessing it in a way that the services we provide makes our customers can stand out from the pack, without breaking the bank.
So why the MMS blog? The answer is simple, blogging is a powerful, modern technology which I aim to use as a sounding place for some of my own ideas, insights and commentary on the issues and technology which effects how small business works.
